Arab News, Saudi Arabia's English-language daily newspaper, is promoting Georgia and its capital of Tbilisi as destinations influenced by “many different cultures and eras”, urging readers to visit the city it says has a “character all its own”.

In the travel piece published last week, Shaistha Khan describes the country as a “unique blend of European and Asian cultures” but also as one that is eager to express its own identity following its regaining of independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

Apart from its rich cultural tapestry, there are several other reasons why Georgia appeals: you’re never far away from the snow-capped Caucasus Mountain range, making it a year-round playground for skiers and snowboarders. And the locals are hospitable and welcoming people, so it’s easy to find good food and conversation”, the article says.

Khan also recommends exploring Metekhi, a historical neighbourhood of Tbilisi, as well as the city's iconic sulphur baths and boat rides on the Mtkvari River.
